Boy Scout Troop 880 invites your Webelos to scouting events during our 2009-10 season. These include Troop-Webelos meetings where Belt loops can be earned as well as campouts where Webelos Activity requirements can be completed.
These events are a chance to experience Troop 880s Scouting program. WEBELOS 2 Scouts will also have the opportunity to work on the BSA Scout Rank. If completed before the Blue & Gold this can actually be awarded at the crossover ceremony.
WEBELOS Nights with Troop 880 will provide the opportunity to earn a Belt Loop like Map & Compass. All Webelos nights will be held during outdoor meetings at Nevers Park Rotary Pavilion. Our outdoor meetings this Fall are planned for Thursday Sept 24th, Thursday Oct 15th and Thursday November 19th.
Den Leaders - Please notify us what night(s) you plan to attend so we are prepared with a Belt Loop. You can attend as many meetings as you like.
Troop meetings are held every Thursday except the first Thursday of the month. Meetings are held at either Wapping Church or Nevers Pavilion. All meetings begin at 7:30PM.
Continue to navigate through this website for additional Troop information. Access the Calendar for a complete listing of Troop activities planned over the next year and review activities over the last few years.
Note: Although there are specific Webelos nights, all Troop 880 meetings are open to Webelos, prospective scouts and parents. Troop 880 uses the patrol method of Scouting; Boys-leading-boys. During all events, prospective Scouts will be assigned a Patrol. The Patrol Leader of each Patrol will lead the Scouts to insure that there is involvement by all Scouts and each Scout learns while having fun.
The Annual Recruitment Nights for Webelos & parents will be Thursday Jan 21st and Thursday Feb 11th 7:30PM at Wapping Community Church. If there are scheduling conflicts due to Pack Meetings please let us know. These events will give parents a more detailed view of Troop 880's scouting programs (advancement, outdoors, summer camp, community service, high adventure, etc...)
Troop 880 will be running a day of recruitment activities Saturday May 8th on the lawn at Wapping Church in the middle of South Windsor. We will be hosting a day of scouting activities: including cooking (breakfasts, cakes, dinners), first aid, knots, setting up tents, hiking, etc at Wapping Church on Ellington Rd. Activities will be largely outdoors. They will be moved indoors only if weather is inclement.
CAMPING VISIT and SPRING CAMPOUT:
Annual Scout Skills Challenge Campout (Day event for Webelos) Webelos 2s are invited to attend the annual daytime competition between South Windsor Troops, hosted by Troop 880. Spend the day with us at Camp June Norcross Webster (Ashford, CT - 35 min drive).
Parents can watch as scouts from the Troop 880, Troop 186 and Troop 62 compete. Challenges include: First Aid, Building Shelters, Cooking, Fire Starting and other skills. Elected again this year as event Scoutmaster by the town’s Troops is our own Scoutmaster Justin George. Scoutmasters & Assistant Scoutmasters do the judging (personally I like the food judging best).
March 27-28 J. N. Webster Campout (One Night) - Geared toward new Scouts and Webelos. The camp is in Ashford, CT and is a 35 minute drive. A parent must accompany each Webelos scout.
Please sign-up as far in advance as possible for planning purposes.
Sign up or request more info by contacting Asst Scout Master, Mark Edson, at mdedson@xsmail.com (644-0712) or Scout Master, Justin George, at jbgeorge1@cox.net
The Troop will provide tents and food. You should bring toiletries, sleeping bag and pad, change of clothes, rain gear, flashlight and bowl, plate, utensils, drinking mug. Also, a day pack or fanny pack for a water bottle and any snacks. Also please bring appropriate food items if there are any special dietary needs.
NOTE: Webelos parents are welcome to stay at the troop meetings; however, a parent must accompany each Webelos scout on any campout.
Also, if any Den Leader (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos 1 or 2) needs assistance, please let us know as we have several Senior Rank Scouts available (First Class, Star, Life and Eagle) to help out at any special Den or Pack events. Please let us know your needs as far in advance as possible to avoid conflicts with other Dens or Packs.
Whether to sign up for an activity or just to ask questions, please feel free to contact Scoutmaster Justin George, at jbgeorge1@cox.net or myself, Mark Edson, at mdedson@xsmail.com (644-0712) anytime.
