2/2 PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) - 7:00 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Discussing ideas for next month's activities.

 

What to bring:

  • At least 4 of your best ideas for future meeting and scout challenges.
     

What to wear:

  • Class B Uniforms (bright orange colored shirts)

 

 

2/2 BOR (Board of Review) - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What you should know:

  • The skills that were required for your current rank.

  • The skills that are required and your readiness for your next rank.

  • It is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have and to give feedback to the troop committee about activities and your Scouting experience in your troop and in your patrol.

 

What to bring:

  • All scouts who are meeting to attain their next scout rank, must  bring their Scout Handbooks with them.

 

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

2/8 Troop Committee Meeting - 7:00 Wapping Church 3rd Floor

 

What we're doing:

  • Once a month our Troop Committee meets to discuss meets to discuss

    • Troop Finances

    • Scout Advancement, including the progression of our future Eagle Scouts.

    • Scoutmaster report of PLC activities.

    • Future trips and activities for our troop.

    • What is happening with scouting with news from our parent BSA District.

  • Scout parents are always invited to this meeting to assist in guidance of the troop. 

Parents are also encouraged to join the adult leadership of the troop.  As our scouts move on, so do our parents.  Our troop is always looking for Merit Badge Counselors, Committee Members, and Assistant Scoutmasters.

 

 

2/9 Outdoor Meeting - 7:30 Nevers Park Pavilion

 

What we're doing:

  • OA selection

  • Morse Code from a distance.  First there will be a class on the basics of Morse Code.  Then there will be test and competition.

  • Younger scout advancement.

  • Foil cooking test and competition.  Each scout will be being their own foil meal to cook over the coals.  The troop's SPL and APSL will be judging.

 

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

  • Each scout should bring their knife, compass, flashlight, whistle and some matches.

  • A foil meal for the cooking competition.

What to wear:

  • Class B Uniforms (bright orange colored shirts)

  • Warm clothing.

 

 

2/12 Munson Candy Bars Fund Raiser - 9:30 to 6:30 at Stop and Shop

 

What we're doing:

  • We are selling Munson Candy Bars at a local grocery store as a fund raiser.

  • Profits from this fund raiser will be used for troop equipment, supplies, scouting awards, etc.

  • Our troop needs all of our scouts to help!  

 

What to bring:

  • A positive attitude and your best sales techniques.
     

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

  • If raining, wear a rain coat.

  • If cold, wear thermal underwear, gloves, parka and a hat.

  • If warm and sunny, we are requesting no shorts.  Your legs would look embarrassingly white.

 

 

2/16 Scout Recruiting Night - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Recruiting and Webelos II Scout and Parent Orientation Night.

  • We will heading to patrol corners for Winterfest meal planning and on-a-stick cooking.

  • Home repair (scouts that are First Class or above).

  • Advancement (scouts that haven't reached the rank of First Class)

  • First Aid competition.

  • If time allows, Dodge Ball.

What to bring:

  • Scouts are being asked to invite a friend for an informal visit.

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

2/21 Immaculate Conception Shelter Service Project (5:45 - 8:30)

 

What we're doing:

  • Meeting at St. Francis Church (673 Ellington Road) at 5:45.

  • Helping others, who are less fortunate, to warm dinner.

  • This is one of the most important and rewarding meeting of the year.  Troop leadership urges parents and scouts to attend and assist in this event.

 

What donations to bring:

  • Brownies, Bags of fruit, (apples, oranges, bananas), New or Used Men clothing (coat, hat, gloves, etc), Socks, twin sheets, travel size soap, shampoo, etc.

 

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

2/23 No scheduled meeting - School Vacation

 

What we're doing:

  • Taking a little time to catch up and be with our families.

 

2/24 - 2/26 Troop 880 Winterfest Trip at Camp Wanocksett (NH)

 

What we're doing:

  • Troop 880 will be going to Camp Wanocksett Boy Scout Camp in Jaffrey, New Hampshire the weekend of Feb. 24th through Feb. 26th . The Troop will be leaving Friday evening the 24th at 6:00pm from the Church.  The Troop will be and returning Sunday the 26th at about 11:30 am.

  • Once everyone has arrived at camp and is settled in, we will work on our winter camping skills as well as fire building in the winter, building snow caves, ice fishing, (providing there is ice and snow) and other advancement requirements.  

  • We will be staying in a heated cabin with power that will accommodate 26 scouts, that is the first 28 scouts to sign up. The others will enjoy Saturday Night Game Night and then retire outside to earn the polar bear badge. 

  • The infamous Saturday Night Game night will start promptly after dinner.

    Saturday night dinner will be Patrol cooking.  Each Patrol will be responsible for cooking their own dinner Saturday night.  

  • The Troop will provide breakfast Saturday and Sunday and lunch Saturday afternoon.

This trip is not to be missed.  Sign-up early or sleep outside!

All fees and permission slips MUST be received no later than February 13, 2012
