9/12 Wapping Fair Community Service 5:30 - 8:30

A message from our Wapping Fair Volunteer Coordinator:

To all Troop 880 Scouts/Leaders and Parents:

Once again Troop 880 has been asked by the Wapping Fair to help with the breakdown of the Wapping Fair on Sunday, September 12th from 5:30PM - 8:30 PM.  Our troop volunteered in this capacity last year and it was a big success with a really great turnout from our troop!  The Wapping Fair Committee said we were the angels in the night because we had done such a great job in a short period of time.  The responsibilities will include grounds clean-up and the food tent breakdown of tables and chairs.  We also took down banners last year so this may also be part of the job.

Please reply if you are able to volunteer your time.  Based on the number of volunteers and hours we give them they will be making a donation to our troop. This is a great opportunity for scouts to earn services hours needed for rank advancement.  If any parents (who are not leaders) would like to help out along with the scouts, that would be greatly appreciated as well! Many hands make light work.  We gave the Wapping Fair a tentative commitment of 20 volunteers!

Thanks, in advance, for your cooperation and please promptly reply!

9/24 - 9/26 Chester Reservoir Campout

What we're doing:

This will be a fun trip and a great preparation trip for the AT Hiking Trip next month.  Scouts needing advancement will also be able to learn new skills and pass many requirements. Scouts needing cooking requirements should also be able to work on those.  This is one of the best camping spots in the state!

Our September trip will be in Chester Connecticut in the Cockaponset State Forrest. We will be leaving Friday night and returning Sunday morning. This is about a 45 minute ride from the Church. We will be Camping at site E. The troop will do a five mile hike through the State Forrest. That means you will need a day pack, water bottle whistle and compass. This is great opportunity to work on map orientation. We are also located a on a reservoir so you can bring your fishing poles and some bait. Mr. Marchessault was the hands down fishing champ on our last outing here. Weather permitting we may have an organized swim.

This trip will be Patrol cooking. That means the scouts will be responsible for their own meals. That will be Saturday breakfast, lunch (ON THE TRAIL) and dinner as well as Sunday breakfast.

We will be leaving Friday night 9/24 (5:30) and returning Sunday morning 9/26 . Our estimated arrival time Sunday will be about 11 am give or take. The cost of the trip will be 10 dollars. If you have any questions, please call Mr. Hofmann or Mr. Otto.
