What we're doing:

Troop 880 will camp at the Beartown State Forest in Monterey Mass.  We will be leaving the church Friday night at 5:45 pm and returning Sunday morning about 11am.  We will get up Saturday morning have a light breakfast and start our hike.  On this trip we will hike up to one of the shelters along this part of the trail. The shelters are Wilcox North or South.  This part of the trail lies within Beartown State Forrest. This trip will be a great opportunity for cooking and other outdoor skills required for advancement. Scouts who are not first class should bring their scout book. You need to pack light and pack warm. This trip will be Patrol cooking. Please consider freeze dried dinners for Saturday evening.  It's one of the lightest and easiest. October is one of the best's months to camp. The fall colors will be brilliant, the nights are cool and the days are nice and no bugs. The most important thing about backpacking is keeping your weight down. Do not over pack. Bring only what you need. Split your cooking gear and tents and among your Patrol.
