"Be Prepared" for all meetings - Patrol Leaders Must Communicate!

 

3/3 PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) - 7:00 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Discussing ideas for next month's activities.

 

What to bring:

  • At least 4 of your best ideas for future meeting and scout challenges.
     

What to wear:

  • Class B Uniforms (bright orange colored shirts)

 

 

3/3 BOR (Board of Review) - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What you should know:

  • The skills that were required for your current rank.

  • The skills that are required and your readiness for your next rank.

  • It is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have and to give feedback to the troop committee about activities and your Scouting experience in your troop and in your patrol.

 

What to bring:

  • All scouts who are meeting to attain their next scout rank, must  bring their Scout Handbooks with them.

 

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

3/9 Troop Committee Meeting - 7:00 Wapping Church 3rd Floor

 

What we're doing:

  • Once a month our Troop Committee meets to discuss meets to discuss

    • Troop Finances

    • Scout Advancement, including the progression of our future Eagle Scouts.

    • Scoutmaster report of PLC activities.

    • Future trips and activities for our troop.

    • What is happening with scouting with news from our parent BSA District.

  • Scout parents are always invited to this meeting to assist in guidance of the troop. 

Parents are also encouraged to join the adult leadership of the troop.  As our scouts move on, so do our parents.  Our troop is always looking for Merit Badge Counselors, Committee Members, and Assistant Scoutmasters.

 

 

3/10 Meeting - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Clove Hitch knot tying (Please know this knot prior to arriving).

  • Bridge building.  Each scout group will be required to build an 8 ft bridge.

  • Advancement.  Scouts that are not at the rank of first class, should come prepared to pass at least one requirement.

  • If time a possible discussion of how to use and setup a Block and Tackle.

 

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

3/17 Meeting - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Sheet Bend knot tying (Please know this knot prior to arriving).

  • Rotating through three communication stations.

    • Human Bridge.

    • Morse Code

    • Communication Test with walkie-talkies and Lego blocks.

  • Meal planning for this month's AT Hiking Trip.

 

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

3/19 Munson Candy Bars Fund Raiser - 10:00 to 4:00 at Stop and Shop

 

What we're doing:

  • We are selling Munson Candy Bars at a local grocery store as a fund raiser.

  • Profits from this fund raiser will be used for troop equipment, supplies, scouting awards, etc.

  • Our troop needs all of our scouts to help!  

 

What to bring:

  • A positive attitude and your best sales techniques.
     

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

  • If raining, wear a rain coat.

  • If cold, wear thermal underwear, gloves, parka and a hat.

  • If warm and sunny, we are requesting no shorts.  Your legs would look embarrassingly white.

 

 

3/22 Immaculate Conception Shelter Service Project (6:00 - 9:00)

 

What we're doing:

  • Meeting at St. Francis Church (673 Ellington Road) at 6:00.

  • Helping others, who are less fortunate, to warm dinner.

  • This is one of the most important and rewarding meeting of the year.  Troop leadership urges parents and scouts to attend and assist in this event.

 

What donations to bring:

  • Brownies, Bags of fruit, (apples, oranges, bananas), New or Used Men clothing (coat, hat, gloves, etc), Socks, twin sheets, travel size soap, shampoo, etc.

 

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

3/24 Meeting - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • Timber Hitch knot tying (Please know this knot prior to arriving).

  • Having a competition on the best backpack.

  • Advancement.  Scouts that are not at the rank of first class, should come prepared to pass at least one requirement.

  • A blind Tent Setup Test.

 

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

 

3/25 - 3/27 Troop 880 Spring 2011 Backpacking Trip

 

What we're doing:

Troop 880 will be going to the Miles Standish State Forest located in Carver, Massachusetts. We will be camping at Boy Scout Camp Cachalot Friday evening. Saturday morning the Troop will break camp and hike 5 miles to Boy Scout Camp Squanto where we will camp Saturday evening. This hike between Boy Scout camps will not be a difficult hike at all. This is a great opportunity for the boys to experience a backpacking trip if they have not gone on one before or have not been in a while.

 

This trip is a must attend trip and it will allow you  to demonstrate your scout skills!

3/31 Outdoor Meeting - 7:30 Nevers Park

 

What we're doing:

  • We will recap our Appalachian Trail Hiking trip.  What went right, wrong and how we can improve.

  • First Aid Testing.  Each member of the Senior Patrol will be given a condition that will need treatment (or not).  Patrols will need to diagnose what to do in each situation.

  • A larger First Aid Challenge with a first aid obstacle course.

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Class B Uniforms (bright orange colored shirts)

  • Warm clothing.
