"Be Prepared" for all meetings - Patrol Leaders Must Communicate!

4/1 PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) - has been cancelled

 

What you should know:

  • Wapping Community Church has informed us that they will be using the Community Room for the feast of Maundy (or Holy) Thursday which solemnly commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and is the oldest of the observances peculiar to Holy Week.  Because of this we are cancelling PLC.

 

4/7 Troop Committee Meeting - 7:00 Wapping Church 3rd Floor

 

What we're doing:

  • Once a month our Troop Committee meets to discuss meets to discuss

    • Troop Finances

    • Scout Advancement, including the progression of our future Eagle Scouts.

    • Scoutmaster report of PLC activities.

    • Future trips and activities for our troop.

    • What is happening with scouting with news from our parent BSA District.

  • Scout parents are always invited to this meeting to assist in guidance of the troop. 

Parents are also encouraged to join the adult leadership of the troop.  As our scouts move on, so do our parents.  Our troop is always looking for Merit Badge Counselors, Committee Members, and Assistant Scoutmasters.

 

4/8 BOR (Board of Review) - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What you should know:

  • The skills that were required for your current rank.

  • The skills that are required and your readiness for your next rank.

  • It is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have and to give feedback to the troop committee about activities and your Scouting experience in your troop and in your patrol.

 

What to bring:

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

 

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

4/8 Troop Meeting - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • There are many scouts that are only a few requirements away from their next rank.  Scouts that are First Class and higher will be teaching scouting skills to the lower ranks.  We will also be testing skills to sign-off on requirements all the way to First Class.  (Note that there are only 5 meetings before the Advancement Freeze period begins).

  • Knife and Axe Safety training for older scouts.

  • Hands on knife work for older scout.

What to bring:

  • Older scouts should bring their jackknife (Only Scouts with Tot’n Chit are allowed to use/hold a jackknife)

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).

 

4/15 Outdoor Meeting - 7:30 Nevers Park

 

What we're doing:

  • Each patrol will be demonstrating their Dutch Oven cooking skills by making either a dinner or dessert.

  • Fire safety training.

What to bring:

  • Scouts are being asked to invite a friend for an informal visit.

  • Each scout should bring their knife, compass, flashlight, whistle and some matches.

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

 

What to wear:

  • Class B Uniforms (bright orange colored shirts)

 

4/22 No scheduled meeting - School Vacation

(Note: Possible 7:00-7:30 opening of the scout closet for equipment distribution for our Orienteering Campout)

 

What we're doing:

  • Taking a little time to catch up and be with our families.

4/23 - 4/25 Orienteering Campout (Parents are welcome)

 

What we're doing:

This is a great trip for the scouts. Troop 880 has been participating for a numbers of years now. This program teaches a skill that is essential when hiking and on camping trips. Boy Scouts can complete First Class requirement #2 (orienteering) as well as many requirements for the "Orienteering" Merit Badge. The New England Orienteering Club hosts this competition and training program.

4/29 Troop Meeting - 7:30 Wapping Church

 

What we're doing:

  • There are many scouts that are only a few requirements away from their next rank.  Scouts that are First Class and higher will be teaching scouting skills to the lower ranks.  We will also be testing skills to sign-off on requirements all the way to First Class.  (Note that there are only 3 meetings before the Advancement Freeze period begins).

  • How to setup a bug net for scout camp.

  • Tot’n Chit review (Knife and Saw).

  • Purifying water demonstration.

What to bring:

  • Older scouts should bring their jackknife (Only Scouts with Tot’n Chit are allowed to use/hold a jackknife)

  • Scouts who have not attained the rank of First Class should always bring their Scout Handbooks to each troop meeting.

What to wear:

  • Full Class A uniform (no jeans or baseball caps.  You don't have to purchase official scout pants, green matching pants are acceptable).
